If you ask us, bold brows are one of the best makeup trends to hit the beauty industry in recent years. We, like many, were all too pleased to say goodbye to super-skinny eyebrows in favor of the fuller look. Despite our love for big brows, we can admit they aren’t always exactly easy to achieve—even with the aid of makeup. You’re likely already aware of a variety of eyebrow grooming mistakes that keep the fuller-looking brows of your dreams just out of reach, from over plucking to using the wrong eyebrow makeup. But there’s another mistake you might be making—not following our ultimate eyebrow hack. We’ve discovered the most important tip for transforming your brows—and it’s surprisingly simple. All you need to do is learn to layer eyebrow products. Instead of relying on just one pencil or pomade to do the job, you can use four separate products—one right after the other—to get your best (i.e. fullest-looking) brows yet. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Brush Up Your Brows
Don’t jump straight to filling in your eyebrows with a bunch of products—that’ll come next. First, you’ll want to see what you naturally have to work with. Using a spoolie (you can usually find one on the opposite end of an eyebrow pencil) brush all of your eyebrow hairs upwards. Then, gently brush the spoolie along the tops of your brows to slightly correct the shape. Ta-da, fullness!
Step 2: Define with a Pencil
Now it’s time for your first product—a pencil. Pencils are a long-standing favorite as far as brow products go, thanks to their ability to draw on natural-looking hairs, so it should be no surprise that they’re part of our ultimate brow hack. To get started, use the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Mechanical Pencil to define the outline of your brows. The pencil’s ultra-fine tip is perfect for creating your ideal shape. Plus, you won’t have to worry about losing your fluffed-up brows halfway through the day—the pencil is waterproof for a long-lasting look.
Step 3: Use a Crayon to Fill
Once you have an outline, you can go ahead and fill it in. But before you do that, you’ll need to switch to a different product. For this step, opt for a creamy crayon, like the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Kabuki Blender. Use the tip of the crayon to fill in, building to your desired intensity. (Remember, full brows don’t necessarily have to be super-intense—that’s up to you!) When you finish filling your brows in, don’t stop there. Use the kabuki blending brush to blend out your brows for a softer effect.
Step 4: Plump with Fibers
Besides wearing false lashes, the most effective way to add volume to your lashes is a coat or two of fiber mascara. If you keep that in mind, it makes sense that fiber-infused brow mascaras are another secret to getting fuller-looking brows. The L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Plumper is a brow gel mascara that features a formula packed with fibers to plump up your brows and set them in place. To apply, brush the formula on in short upward strokes following your brow shape and comb through to blend.
Step 5: Conceal and Highlight
By now, your brows are looking great—and full—but don’t leave them as is. Before you can be done, use the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Brow Raiser Highlighting Duo for a few finishing touches. The convenient chubby pencil comes with a concealer on one end and a highlighter on the other to highlight and define the arch of your brows. Trace the matte concealer around the edges of your brows to correct any imperfections and sharpen their shape, then use the shimmer highlighter above and below the arch of your brows for a lifted look.
